It clings to my shoulders.
Sharp red talons piercing skin,
digging deep into the muscle.
Scratching bone.
Leathery wings engulf my body.
Enveloping me in a scorching heat.
They rustle, making an odd noise.
Like the sound of distant screams.
Voices spew a hideous whisper,
Falling from the blackened mouths.
Each face pressed close to the back of my ears.
The two eyeless faces reflected in the glass before me.
It should be fear that seeps in,
but it’s not.
Blinding white rage flows through my veins.
Stars erupt at the edge of my vision.
The beast lifts its heads.
Mouths curling up in twin smiles.
In unison its voices ring out,
“Fall with me.”
