Your voice calls.

I make my way through the trees.

Words slither over the dirt,

sifting between my toes.

Snaking up pale ankles,

fangs sink into flesh.

Poison spreads.

Fire burns my chest.

Your voice calls.

Branches ensnare my arms.

Roots entangle my legs.

Splinters embedded beneath nails.

Clawing at gnarled tendrils.

Terror settles,

ants beneath my skin.

Your voice calls.

Closer, I hear you.

Your breath brushes my ear.

Thorns envelop me.

Your hand cups my cheek.

A gentle kiss,

as I am entombed beneath.

Your voice whispers,
