Bees are buzzing in the other room.

I can feel it. Like a Fuzzy lining on my teeth.

The hum is overwhelming.

Thunder rolls across the darkened ceiling.

My eyes refuse to stay shut.

The boom echoes over me.

Rattling at the window, metal on metal.

Pulling me from the edge of rest.

The clanging shakes my head.

Please, be quiet.

I can’t sleep.

The voices from the other room fade.

Indistinguishable words,

now gentle whispers.

The footsteps are no longer on the stairs.

Tip-toeing softly,

they retreat to their haven.

The air conditioner settles.

Washing me with a cool breeze.

Like a soft hand on my forehead.

Thank you.

Now I can sleep.
