Can a face cast in sunlight drown out the shadows beneath?
I once thought it couldn’t be true.
Surely, someone could see the darkness brewing.
But I was young.
I was naive.
I was wrong.
It’s not that we can’t see past the light.
We don’t want to.
The light is home.
The light is safe.
So we cling to it.
And in doing so we let the monster in
Into our head
Into our bed
Digging our own grave
As we smile into the light
Telling everyone everything is fine
Everything is fine
I am doing okay
I am okay
